Moments That Made Fashion News In Paris

October 14, 2016 | The Liva Lifestyle

The biggest fashion event of the year just ended and we aren't getting over it anytime soon!

From amazing runway trends to off-stage drama, Paris Fashion Week had it all. There was a subtle metamorphosis in the standards of beauty and fashion styles seen this season. From unconventional models walking down the ramps to street styles that gave way to positive body imagery, here are some moments that made fashion news headlines:

Revoking The Runway

Paris has always been pushing the envelope to make sure new fashion trends are about more than vanity (right from banning skinny models to prevent eating disorders), and this year was no different. The last day of the fashion week saw a rather unique show curated by French entrepreneur Myriam Chalek. In an attempt to create awareness about visual impairment, blind models donned beautiful gowns and strutted down the runway with panache and confidence. They walked using a rope line to guide them and looked enchanting as ever in the trendy clothes. Moving beyond hot fashion trends and focusing on stopping discrimination in the fashion and modelling industry, the show aimed at “opening people's minds, opening people's hearts”.

Fashion For All

Paris Fashion Week is almost synonymous with catalogue models and elaborate, pompous fashion clothes by the biggest designers. This year however, Swedish high street brand H&M brought in some new fashion styles with a fresh dose of realness. Propagating the message of beauty being independent of looks, the fashion styles were showcased by plus-sized and transgender models. It was a celebration of women and their beauty that cannot be bound by rules. In the words of the fashion label’s creative advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson, “This collection is about the strength and the beauty of women, and how we express that power through our style.”

Dressing Down In Style

While the runways were attempting to change the world, the biggest change was seen in the front rows. This year the front row patrons ditched their fancy designer gowns and dressed down, leaving many stunned. The latest fashion trend was denims in the front row and we aren’t complaining (hello style inspiration!) Jennifer Lawrence attended the Dior show in casual cuffed jeans and a sheer back top, while Karlie Kloss rocked her distressed denims with an off-shoulder top. Ace blogger, Chiara Ferragni (The Blonde Salad) wore her ripped Levis with a vintage Chanel jacket giving the world major outfit goals. Even the Kardashian sister, Kourtney wasn't seen in her usual over the top outfits a miss for boyfriend jeans, making it clear dressing down is the new IT thing.

The fashion capital of the world, Paris has always taken steps towards using the platform to make a difference. While the changes may be small, these recent attempts are sure to set positive beauty standards and give young girls a reason to love themselves as they are. The new fashion trends this season would definitely bring smiles to many a face.
